Exactly right. Should I get a bonus if I decide to play without using hexes? I mean, that's a big restriction, so I should get a bonus right? What if I play a non-bow ranger? That's gotta be worth some extra points!

Wrong. This isn't GURPS (or insert your favorite point-based RPG here), you don't get to take a voluntary restriction and get extra bonuses out of it. You think you have a single profession combo that works well, use it. Don't expect some type of subsidies. In fact, my mesmer and my ranger both play largely pure builds (as in, a good % of the time). Hmm, and my necro too. Funny, I do it an awful lot, but only becuase it works so well.
